I was at the Doctor's the other day with my daughter and I picked up a leaflet statting the old addage....

Eat loads for breakfast,
Moderate Lunch and...
Small evening meal..

Well we have all heard this one before....but this is a new concept.

I know we have been told to have a HEAVY BREAKFAST to sustain through the day, keep sugar levels etc up....but it now seems the idea is to TURN MEALS ABOUT.

Breakfast becomes the evening meal, lunch remains the same, and a moderate meal in the evening.

It amazed me to see that breakfast should consist of

Chicken with steamed potatoes and veg..

or...

EVEN A BURGER.

If you want to know more on this contraversial aspect, leave a comment.

Sorry have written this in the other blog and crossed referenced here....as runing out of time today with posting....

For breakfast ideas....not much sorry, but something...

We all know the old saying, “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper”, so surely eating a bowl of breakfast cereal first thing in the morning is sensible, healthy eating?.

This is true to some extent with cereals that are high in fibre, low in fat, sugar and salt as well as being fortified with a range of vitamins and minerals. However, it is often the case that not all breakfast cereals are as healthy or nutritious as they might first appear.

A popular documentary show has recently exposed the amount of sugar and salt in some breakfast cereals to be equivalent to consuming a plate of chocolate-chip cookies or ready salted crisps and they are using health claims and attractive packaging to sell these as the healthier options!! In fact, well known cereal brands faired worse then supermarket branded cereals when the nutrition numbers were crunched and many of these are aimed at children!

The proof is seen when you take a closer look at the nutritional information on the side of the pack of cereals. Some varieties of muesli, crammed full with nuts and dried fruit, have as many calories and as much fat per 100g as Jaffa Cakes - even the reduced sugar varieties. But this is not the worst of the bowl busting cereals…much worse are the crunchy, nutty and chocolatey cluster cereals.

But these cereals contain oats and wheat so they must be good for us?? Wrong! These sticky cereals are not packed full with fibre, vitamins and energy-boosting carbohydrates but instead are bursting with fat, sugars and just too much salt. Unfortunately, they are also yummy it is easy to indulge in more than the recommended 30g serving.

If you are going to make the effort and breakfast like the proverbial king, make sure you do it right…try to avoid the sticky, high fat choco-nutty sugar crisp clusters and go for a high fibre, flake or biscuit type cereal with added vitamins and minerals. These contain hardly any fat and if you add some fruit and use low-fat milk one bowl really will last you ‘til lunch!

Not posted for a while, but making this tonight (or prep) for tomorrow to share with daughter and boyfriend...with a little left over for his lunch.

This recipe serves 4...

Ingredients

100g/4oz Haricot Beans, soaked  overnight

100g/4oz Borlotti or Brown Beans, soaked overnight

100g/4oz Black-eyed Beans, soaked overnight

Handful chick peas soaked overnight

2 Garlic Cloves, crushed

1 small head of Celery, chopped

2 x 400g/14oz tins Tomatoes

450ml/15 fl.oz. Water

1 teasp Yeast Extract (such as Marmite)

3 teasp Dried Oregano

Salt and Black Pepper

Instructions

1. Drain the soaked haricot, chick peas, brown and black-eyed beans and rinse under cold running water. Place all the beans in a large saucepan, cover with fresh cold water, bring to the boil and boil rapidly for 15 minutes. This is essential to remove any toxins from the skins.

2. Drain the beans, cover with fresh cold water, bring to the boil again, cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

3. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a large saucepan, add the onion, celery, green capsicum and garlic and fry gently for 10 minutes. Add the tomatoes and water, stir in the yeast extract, oregano, salt and pepper and bring to the boil.

4. Drain the beans and add to the pan of vegetables. Stir well, reduce the heat, cover and cook for 1 hour or until the beans are soft.

5. If necessary, adjust seasoning. Serve hot.

Great.

Just take away ALL the fun in life, why don'tcha??

'Chis and Flips' as we affectionally say when we don't want people to know we are going to stuff our faces with all that batter and soggy chips.

I worked out a recipe that gives you NO MORE than 410 kcal per portion
Ok takes about an hour to sort but is well worth it.

Ingredients

    * Four white fish fillets
* Two tablespoons milk
* 75g fresh breadcrumbs
* Cooking spray – such as Fry Light
* Salt and black pepper
* One egg
* 900g peeled potatoes
* Vegetable oil

Cut the potatoes into 1.5 cm wide chips, and add to a pan of boiling water. Cover and cook until the chips are just tender, then drain. Beat the egg, milk and seasoning together in a shallow dish, pat the fish dry and dip it in the mixture, and then in the breadcrumbs. Place on a baking tray and spray with the low fat cooking spray.

Add the oil and the chips to a large bowl and coat them well. Put the chips onto a baking tray, season well and cook for 20 minutes at the top of the oven. Cook the fish for fifteen minutes.

Serve the fish and chips with a side salad, or some peas. Alternatively, you could make your own mushy peas with frozen peas, Greek yoghurt and lemon juice.

This low fat dessert recipe for cheesecake uses ricotta - a good protein provider for what is also an easy low fat dessert recipe, that everyone will love.

Serves 8 persons

Preheat the oven to 180C, 350F, gas 4. Prepare an 18cm round loose-based flan tin.

Ingredients

75g white self-raising flour

2 tablespoons caster sugar

2 teaspoons sifted cocoa powder

30g low-fat margarine

2 teaspoons water

1 egg yolk

Ricotta filling ingredients

150g low-fat ricotta cheese

1 egg

1 egg yolk

70g low-fat plain yogurt

55g caster sugar

2 teaspoons white plain flour

2 tablespoons dark chocolate chips

2 teaspoons of coffee-flavoured liqueur.

Method

In a large mixing bowl add self-raising flour, the sugar, sifted cocoa powder and low-fat margarine. Mix until even breadcrumbs are formed. Add the water and egg yolk, and mix until it forms a dough. Knead the pastry for a couple of minutes on a floured surface until smooth. Cover and refrigerate for 30mins to rest.

When ready, gently roll the pastry and then cover and press over the prepared flan-tin. Cover the pastry with baking paper, leaving an extra 5cm all the way round. Fill and cover with baking beans or rice.

Bake in the preheated oven for ten minutes. Take out the pastry from the oven and remove the paper and beans. Then bake for a further five minutes, or until the pastry is a light golden brown. Leave to cool.

To make the cheesecake ricotta filling.

With an electric mixer in a medium sized mixing bowl, mix the ricotta, the egg yolk and whole egg, yogurt, sugar and flour, until smooth. Then add the choc chips and liqueur, and mix through the mixture.

Pour into the cooled pastry case and fill evenly. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes.

Remove from the oven and cool. Chill before adding fruit and decoration

NOTE: The above pic is a DOUBLE layer with a vanilla layer topped with strawberry.

DIET FOR STRESS: This diet is designed to help you cope with the
stress that builds up during the day.

  Breakfast:
1/2 grapefruit
1 slice whole wheat toast
8 oz. skim milk

  Lunch:
4 oz. lean broiled chicken breast
1 cup steamed spinach
1 cup herb tea
1 Oreo cookie

  Mid-Afternoon snack:
The rest of Oreos in the package
2 pints Rocky Road ice cream, nuts, cherries and whipped cream
1 jar hot fudge sauce

Dinner:
2 loaves garlic bread
4 cans or 1 large pitcher Coke
1 large sausage, mushroom, and cheese pizza
3 Snickers bars

Late Evening Snack:
Entire frozen Sara Lee cheesecake (eaten directly from freezer)

  Additional Rules for this Diet:

1. If you eat something and no one sees you eat it, it has no calories.
2. When you eat with someone else, calories don't count if you do
not eat more than they do.
3. Food used for medicinal purposes NEVER count, such as hot chocolate,
brandy, toast and Sara Lee Cheesecake.
4. If you fatten up everyone else around you, then you look thinner.
5. Things licked off knives and spoons have no calories if you
are in the process of preparing something.
6. Anything consumed while standing has no calories. This is due
to gravity and the density of the caloric mass.
7. Anything consumed from someone else's plate has no calories
since the calories rightfully belong to the other person and
will cling to his/her plate.

  REMEMBER: STRESSED SPELLED BACKWARDS IS DESSERTS.

My daughter is 35 weeks pregnant and I am sorting some recipes for 'after birth' for her to lose those pounds and myself, as I had an accident near a year back and have shoved on a few myself.

Looking to cook and freeze....this one came to mind.

SERVES 2 so easily adapted....

Ingredients

    * 2 skinless, boneless chicken breast fillets
* 2 cloves garlic, chopped
* 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
* 1 tablespoon lemon juice
* salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Preparation method

   1.   Preheat oven to 190 C / Gas mark 5.
2. Cover the chicken breasts with garlic, then sprinkle with rosemary, lemon juice and salt and pepper to taste. Place in a baking dish and bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until juices run clear (baking time will depend on the thickness of your chicken breasts).

Can be served with either green veg, salad or even rice.

Now I am all about losing weight at present...was a chef but had an accident and broke my neck. Since I have been home (and inactive - shoved on way over 16 pounds in weight) these last 10 months.

Many may think that to even THINK about eating curry (or derivations) this weather is unheard of...but it is actually quite a nice meal easpecially when couple with BBQ food.

Some time ago I devised a wrap which could be eaten hot or cold.

At only 289 kcal, protein 12g, carbohydrate 54g, fat 5 g, saturated fat 0g, fibre 5g, salt 1.08 g

SERVES 4 PERSONS

You can use your own variation of veg but here is mine...

CHAPPATI

Ingredients

    * 325g Fine wholemeal flour
* 1 tbs oil
* 250ml Water
* Handful Flour for dusting

METHOD

Mix flour and oil in a bowl and rub lightly. Add water gradually whilst kneading until a soft dough is formed. Cover the bowl and leave for 10 minutes.

Divide the dough up into 12 to 14 small portions.

Lightly flour your working surface and dust one portion at a time, roll it with a rolling pin on the work surface, using more flour as necessary to prevent it sticking

Once you have rolled out all the disks, heat a frying pan and place the rolled chapati in the pan. Cook one side for 20 to 30 seconds, turn it over and then cook the other side.

These can be stored on a plate and covered with a kitchen towel until you are ready to eat them, If they get too cold, you can heat up quickly in the microwave for a few seconds.

FILLING

Small sweet potato
8 cherry tomato
small can chick peas
1 tsp mild/medium curry paste
500g spinach
1/2 tsp corinader

   1. Cook the sweet potatoes in a pan of boiling water for 10-12 minutes until tender. Meanwhile, put the tomatoes, chickpeas, and curry paste in another pan and simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
2. Preheat the grill. Drain the sweet potatoes and add to the tomato mixture. Stir in the spinach and cook for a minute until just starting to wilt. Stir in the coriander, season to taste and keep warm.
3. Sprinkle the chapatis with a little water and grill for 20-30 seconds each side. Spoon on the filling, top with yogurt and fold in half to serve.

According to this article, "Gentlemen prefer Miss Average: The 'perfect' centrefold body is ousted by homely shape of girl-next-door in new study"

They go on to say: "It is a finding that will quicken the hearts of size 14 women everywhere - gentlemen prefer Miss Average.
Men find the homely shape of the girl-next-door more appealing than the 'perfect' proportions of models and centrefolds, a study found.
Most attractive of all is Miss Average - a 5ft 4in female with a 30in waist and 40in hips who wears a size 14."

Click on the above link for the whole article.

And have a little snack now
Just don't overdo it!!  xx

Every now and again, I take three days and eat nothing but fruit and vegetables. In the past I did it regularly but havent for a couple of years or so. So, to help to continue my (slow) weight loss I have breathed life into it again.
Today...day 1...I had a kiwi and a clementine for breakfast with hot water with a slice of lemon in it.
Lunch was (as I was out and about and wasnt prepared) a large, hastily bought banana (not ideally enough, but on day one my not-too-noticeable hunger pangs coped).
Evening meal was a jacket potato with carrots and cabbage (the same as my family but without the meatloaf and gravy!). Probably an apple later.
I allow myself black coffee, water and herbal teas but nothing else.
Tomorrow I will make a pan of veg soup for variety.
As I only ever do this for 3 days at a time I dont have too much time to get bored or overly tempted .
At the end however I will not only have lost weight, but will have a relatively squeeky inside and a feeling of achievement.
Yes I know it is only about 500/600 calories a day but it just nudges the scales, my incentive and my discipline back into action. I will be less likely to want to undo the good when Friday morning arrives.

We always think it's something new, only developed with that fast food crap from McD & Co., but that's not really true.

They were using Germany as an example: Before WWII, people were reasonably healthy. After the war, in 1947, they suffered their worst hunger year but after that, people steadily grew fatter. By the end of the 50s, 15% of Germans were already overweight.

By the end of the 60s, the number had grown so significantly (but I can't recall it ) that the government started to promote a healthier life-style and exercising. Since then the number of overweight and obese Germans is still growing but at a slower rate than before.

Interesting, I thought, because I too was one of the folks who blamed that inedible fast food from McD & Co. for obesity but I guess I was wrong.

So, a healthier life-style and exercising it is!

Right!!!

However I noticed that since I changed a few things around at home - namely, my partner cooks her own food and I cook mine, instead of one of us cooking for us both, I noticed I had lost four pounds this past week.

How cool is that!

I buy different food now. I eat less than her, now that we do not share the cooking.

I wonder if my appetite is just naturally smaller than hers?

I shall keep a watch and see if the trend continues....!

I have weighed that amount for a year or so - can't remember when the weight started piling on - maybe even 5 years ago?

I am going to be 58 years old sometime this year, so I can accept that I may never be as slim and as light as I was in my twenties or thirties.

However...

I wish to change a couple ot things:-

a)-my weight
b)-my appearance

So to start with I am trying very, very, hard to not drink alcohol. That is mainly for other reasons but a secondary consideration is that I think (I have no proof of this, mind you) the alcohol has been part of my weight add on.

Has anyone found that by reducing alcohol intake they have lost weight?

I'd appreciate any answers to this question.

Au revoir...wifey.

  Comments

Joined This Group Today.......

.....because as I am going through a major overhaul in my life, and my weight and size is one area that needs addressing, and this group seems a way to pick up hints and share the problems. I hope!

Probably I might not mind my weight so much if I was happy with how it made me look. But I'm not happy with how this extra weight makes me look. So I'm thinking my weight over-haul will have to go hand in hand with a bit of a 'Makeover' as well.

I can tell you all right now I hate and loath make-up and dressing up. But I'm going to bite the bullet and learn and change....if it kills me...tho' hopefully it won't kill me or that will be rather self-defeating, won't it?

Furthermore this extra two stone weight is darn heavy to carry around. Makes me feel sluggish and gives me aches and pains I would rather do without.

So I will be popping in regularly to talk about how it is going for me and for IAG - Information, Advice and Guidance.

Can't respond very quickly cos I have to go down to the local library to use a computer for the forseeable future, but will certainly do my best.

Will read this groups posts over the next few days - to see what is cooking - oops!!! - maybe I should not have said that - Toodle pip - wifey

Because you have more activities outside, when you are kid you study and enjoy playing with your friends outside: all kind of sports so, we won't have spare energy left to build fat.

I, myself, in my school year, ate a lot and used to wonder why I ate this much but never gain weight for almost ten years till I reached 25 then, I do have less activities that I used to do like, sports in school. Ten more kilos was added to my body. And after that I could not control it and just realize recently that all the activities that I used to do while I was a kid I completely stop. So, everything that I eat, all calories that I consume never used. That's the main reason why.

To lose weight, not easy at all, you need to cut everything that you love to eat out of your life and I did and success. This is what the doctor told me...

Well, to begin with

1. In the morning, breakfast, you can eat a lot because you need energy and have to use brain. So, eat whatever you like. Lunch, you eat them less than what you eat breakfast.

The important thing is in one plate of meal must consist of :
2 part of veggies, 1 part of meat, and 1 part of carbohydrate

and Evening, you eat like you don't have anything to eat. Only veggies and fruits (not sweet one)

add some nuts in every meals would be great for protein.

Strict rules
-no food allows after 6 pm
because you will go to bed soon, no energy use
if you eat much, this will become fat
-no sugar whatsoever (real bad guy)
-no cake, ice cream, soda, snacks
-no animals fat food whatsoever
-no cheese, no by product of milk : magarine, etc.

Truth about milk,
Don't drink milk in the morning. Because in the morning your stomach produce acid when mix with milk and if you drink it for a long time you will have cancer risk. You can drink milk any others time but morning.
Actually, milk comes from cow. Human are not suppose to drink it. That is why you overgrown. Since we all drink, so, one glass a day will do no harm. Drinks soy milk instead (sugar free)

Water is the most wonderful drink in the world. If you feel hungry, drink water. You must drink 8 glasses of water along the day.
First thing when you wake up in the morning(very important), drink one glass of water, some people drink one bottle. It helps you clean out your pipe and lower risk of the cancer.

To loose weight, you don't need to do such a massive or bulky heavy weight lifting.

All you need is fast-walking, like you are trying to chasing someone but not running (because running could hurt your ankle for some people who have too much weight or some disease) What doctors told me is 30 minute of this fast-walking is good for your heart and more than 50 minutes will loose your weight. Do this exercise everyday.

(An older lady called in to comment about the sauce of one of our most popular pizzas.)

Customer: “It’s as though you people put crack in it!”

Me: *laughs* “It is pretty good…”

Customer: “So, do you?”

Me: “Do we… what?”

Customer: “Put crack in it.”

Me: “…are you asking if we put cocaine in our pizza sauce?”

Customer: “Yes!”

Me: “No. I’m pretty sure they stopped putting drugs like that into food and medicine by the 1940s.”

Customer: “Oh. Really? Because it would explain a lot. I just can’t stop eating this pizza!”
